"Buckets of Brass"
Join us on September 21nd 2024 from 9am to 12pm for a "Buckets of Brass" and garbage cleanup event on the Gooseneck BLM recreation area. To get there, go to Highway 22W and turn up Gooseneck Rd, then go 3 miles and the BLM road will be on your left. The whole area has cell phone coverage and is accessible by car. This event is being offered in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management and Polk County Community Corrections Dumpstopper Program.
This is just not your typical clean up type event. This event is a competition to see who can collect the most brass or other shell casings (in weight) during the specified time. If picking up shell casings in not your thing, we are also doing the same competition for garbage or other debris (garbage bags will be provided). BLM is also providing gloves and buckets to all participants. The people (adult and youth) with the most garbage or shell casings (in total weight) will win prizes donated by local businesses. Free lunch will be provided for all participants as well. Lunch is being provided be provided by Safeway. Maps will also be given out (or you can download it via the QR code at the event) so you know where to go!
This event is open to all ages. Please no open toed shoes. We recommend wearing pants and long sleeve shirts. All the cleanup areas are either on a road or on a pull out adjacent to a road.
